We’re In LA

Published by Joe under Family

We’re back in LA, we’ve been back for about a week.  It took us 4 1/2 days to drive here, it was fun but LONG.
It took me about 2 days to find a job  which is a good thing, but the job won’t start until June 30th so that means I still got two weeks to go without a paycheck. =-/.  It pays about the same as what I was making in South Carolina, but after 3 months I will get a bump in pay.  Currently we’re living at Junalyn’s parent’s house in the DEN.  It’s free so I can’t complain.  But I REALLY miss my HOME in SC =/.
Lakers a down 3-1 to the friggen Celtics and could be done tomorrow, but I still have faith.. They can pull off the impossible if they win the next three. It does seem unlikely but I believe they can do it.

Still Alive

Published by Joe under Family

Yes just as the title reads, I’m still alive. Although I haven’t blogged in over a month ALOT has happened. In short summary:
  • I quit my job, my last day was today and we’re moving back to LA
  • My wife has been in LA for the last 3 weeks and will be flying back on Saturday to drive back to LA with me.
  • She’s been working there and have been looking for a place for us to stay
  • But in the meanwhile we’ll be staying at her parents house until we get our head above water.

To be honest, I’m REALLY excited about this move. I can’t wait to be back in HOME in LA. This time we’re older and we will be able to make the right decisions regarding LIFE.

Family Weekend

Published by Joe under Family

This weeekend came and gone probably because we spent the whole time together and had a ton of fun.  Yesterday we had lunch at Smokey Bones in North Charleston.  Jojo’s favorite restaurant here because of their infamous Mac N Cheese. Junalyn made a funny joke that she ordered Jojo Shrimp with Brocolli and got Jojo really worried and kind of mad =/.  But when the food was served she was all laughs and said she knew that Mommy ordered her the Mac N Cheese.  After lunch we headed home and June got stuck playing Peggle on the PC.  It’s a very addictive game and if you haven’t given it a try they have a the trial version available at popcap.com.  I think she played around 4-5 hours on that, which was cool with me because I got to watch the final four.  But sadly both of the teams I wanted to win lost =/ UCLA and UNC.  Oh well I gotta give it up to Memphis and the Jayhawks for playing top notch ball.
Today we headed out to Summerville for the annual Flowertown Festival.  It was our first time going there and we were pleasantly surprised at how much stuff there was to do there.  We tried our very first kettlecorn, which was great.  Apparently it’s a southern snack thing.  Then Jojo went on several rides and had a blast.  We walked.. then walked.. then walked again.  I think the festival was about 5 blocks long and about 2 blocks wide, needless to say it was alot of walking.
After all that walking, we headed home and was just napped.  After napping, I watched the movie “Vantage Point” and thought it was a pretty good movie.  Nothing spectacular but decent, the only thing I would say I didn’t like about the movie was the ending but overall it was good.
Now it’s time to watch the Lakers play Sacramento.  It’s going to be a good game and I hope LA doesn’t take Sac for granted and avenge the loss they had against them at home.

Family Day 3/22/08

Published by Joe under Family

Today was a fun day… we started the day early and watched the first Matinee showing of Horton Hears A Who at 11:30 a.m. in Summerville.  Jojo thought the film was awesome and she actually stayed in her seat the entire movie which is a good thing.  In the past, she usually gets bored with the movie and wants to wander around.  The movie ended at around 1:00 p.m. and we headed over to have lunch at the Crab Shack.  Lunch was good, I had the shrimp, June had the catfish and Jojo had her usual Corndog, fries and hush puppies.  After lunch, we headed home to rest a little bit.  By the way, the weather today in Charleston was just awesome.. high 70s with no cloud in the sky, almost made me think I was back in LA for a minute =/.  We stayed home for a couple of hours then headed out again to get some ice cream.  But we saw a little mini carnival in Goose Creek and we had decided Jojo decided that we should go there first.  So we got the family ticket pass for $20.00 bucks and we went on several rides.  Jojo actually got to ride “The Wipe Out” even though she wasn’t tall enough.  The guy at the gate gave her an OK, even though she was about 3 inches shorter than the required minimum height.  I thought she would be scared of the ride, but she loved it.. In fact, I think my wife was more scared than Jojo.. Heh…
So after the carnival and 20 bucks poorer later we went to coldstones for some ice cream… and now were wiped out and ready to call it a day.

Thinkin’ Of Moving Back To LALA Land

Published by Joe under Family

sunset-la.jpg
This is kind of a big deal.. we’re seriously thinking about moving back to Los Angeles. We’ve been in South Carolina for over 2 years and it just isn’t doing it for us. Both our jobs suck and although we’re making OK money right now we’re just barely keeping our head above water. That’s because we actually got a real mortgage here and our daughter is in a private school which is averaging around $800 to $1000 month. The public school system here is ranked one of the lowest in the nation and we just don’t want her to end up with a South Carolina education =/. I hope that statement isn’t too politically incorrect but people here are just SLOW. To add to this, we haven’t made a circle of close friends here just a bunch of acquaintances. So all in all we’re lonely and we don’t even hang around with my sister and her family. Since I haven’t mentioned it.. part of the reason we moved here was to be closer to my family when my mom passed in 2004. big success that’s been.
Enter California… we grew there, my wife’s entire family is there, my dad’s there, all of our friends are there and my wife’s company is pleading here to come back. It may seem like a no brainer I know but here’s the catch… If we move back to LA we’ll be renting, what probably will be a one bedroom apartment and well I’m sure everyone knows how much housing is in LA. Also I’ll have to look for a new job, don’t know how long that will take. We got no savings, just driving to LA alone will cost around $4-5K, then putting a deposit for the rental will be around $2-3K. So that’s going to be a big issue.
But… if we get some financial help from family.. it maybe doable, as that’s the main reason why we haven’t packed up and left yet. So we’ll play it by ear and see how it goes…. Honestly I WANT TO move back now.. I gave SC a try and really tried to make it work here but it seems like a lost cause. T

Family Day 3/9/08

Published by Joe under Family

Jojo garden

Another Sunday, another family day. Today we just stayed home and spent time together. June and Jojo got started with their vegetable/flower garden (see photo of Jojo). She had a ton of fun planting the seeds and the overall activity. She can’t wait for the plants to start blooming, I think it’s gonna take a couple of weeks before we can actually some stuff sprouting out. But I believe when it finally does she’s gonna be in heaven heh..

After finishing with that activity, we just stayed home and watched TV, cooked some grubb and just relaxed. Then later on in the afternoon I took a nap while they went to buy some plant tables to put in the back for their new garden. We didn’t get to start on painting the bathroom so I guess that’s gonna be our activity next weekend.

Overall it was a good weekend and now its back to the grind.

Family Day 3/8/08

Published by Joe under Family

10d-feb-mar-2008-025-copy.gifEach weekend we label Saturday and Sunday as our family days. Our 4 year old is always looking forward to our family days. Usually we just veg out on the TV and watch a whole bunch of movies. Sometimes we just go to the park with the dog and just hang out. It doesn’t matter what we do as long as we spend it together.

Today was our family day and we had a ton of fun. We started the day off having lunch at Red Lobster in North Charleston. My wife had the lunch special which included shrimp, fish and clams. I had shrimp and clams along with rice pilaf. And Jojo had her usual Mac N Cheese. To drink, I had a Margarita the wifey had a fruity Pina Colada type drink and Jojo had her favorite strawberry smoothie.

After lunch we headed over to Best Buy and got a new Wii game, I forgot what it’s called since Jojo picked it out and its really a game for her age. I wanted to get an external HD but couldn’t decide on one. It takes me a long long time to decide on buying electronic goodies.. But I really need to get one soon because I’m all out of space. Then after that we spent a long time at Lowes.. We’re planning on painting one of our bathrooms and June and Jojo are planning on starting a vegetable garden in the back.

After Lowes we headed home just relaxed. Not sure if were gonna start painting tomorrow, but I know they are gonna start working on their garden.
