Savings

Saving money in an economy with an unemployment rate of 12.4% is difficult, that we know.  But I believe with a clear mind and perseverance we can achieve a goal.  This may not seem like a lot of money to people but our goal is to save 10K for 2011, for us it will be a milestone.

We’re planning on buying a home here in California within a couple of years (most likely a little longer) but it’s going to take some work.  We have dual income which is a good thing.  Bad thing is our annual income about 75K we have 2 kids and 1 in private school.  This doesn’t leave a lot for savings but I’ve been crunching the numbers and I see that we can cut down on items that aren’t necessities and add that to our bottom line.

As mentioned earlier, our goal is to save 10K to start our Down Payment Fund.  I guess our mentality will be one paycheck at a time.  I know it’s not that much for a down payment but it’s a start.  I hope we can keep this goal and stick with it.  With the way we’ve handled finances in the past any type of savings will be a big plus so putting money away weekly is going to be vital.

Randomismnism

AppleTV V2 is useful to me, actually our whole family.

Working 5 days a week sucks, corporate monkeys suck even more.

Why is there a sticker on the door that says “Tigers Roar in ’84″.

Staying positive when your life is going in complete negative will help with suicidal tendencies.

Family is positive EV.

Sierra Nevada is above average.

Exercise is a word that is foreign to me, but I need to learn that language.

Case of the Mondays

Mondays are the busiest day of the week at work.  I do production entry for Friday, Saturday & Sunday.  In essence, 3 times as much work as a regular day.  I don’t finish production entry until 11 AM (I start at 6:00 AM).  After production entry I still need to do a bunch of things.  Getting out of there by 3 is a chore to say the least, but I still leave.  Most of the time I still got a bunch of things I need to do but I just leave making sure that things that need to be done are done.

Yes, waking up at 4:30 AM on a Monday is hard but I think with the way things are going I’m going to start coming in even earlier on Mondays.  I asked if I can come in at 5:00 AM and management didn’t have an argument with that.  So as long as I can hack it..  I’ll be getting up at 3:30 AM on Mondays to make it to work by 5.  This will give me some extra time in the morning to try and get caught up.  Let’s see how long it lasts.

I’m guessing one week.

Cut Throat

Been slowly/steady drinkin some cheap tequila.  Wednesday’s done and the later half of the work week is before us.

A bunch of changes at work and I hear it’s only the first wave.  They laid off a bunch of managers, supervisors and employees in the dept I work in.  People that have been with the company 10+ years.  Cut-throat is the theme that comes to mind but I know it’s just business.  I still got a gig and I’m actually taking over someone who got laid off.  She was w/ the company for about 11 years and all her responsibilities are now mine at least for now.  I’m going to try and keep my mind off all the drama and just try to do my tasks the best I can, but it’s kinda difficult at times.  I feel bad for all the people that have lost their jobs.  I just hope they find something else that will help them get through it.

I just did a Google search on “california unemployment rate”; 12.4% is what popped up.  My God that’s a lot of families.

1/22 – 1/25 2011

1/22 to 1/23 – Weekend went and gone.  We actually donated more items and cleared some space which I’m glad we did.  It took some work but the Den is a lot more roomier now.

1/24 – Went to work.  People got fired, I still have a job but a lot of others don’t (cliff-notes version)

1/25 – Work and done w/ work.  Jojo got praises (and I mean praises) from her Piano Teacher.  Only one lesson and she’s learned 20 songs just by practicing by herself.  I’m a very very proud daddy.  Lakers kicking Utah’s butt up 66-38 @ the half.  I got some $$ on the over which is 198.  Lets see if they cover.

Time to sleep, Jojo’s in bed and she wants me to lay with her.  Hey I’m actually blogging a little more regularly.  I need to do this and keep it updated regularly.

Weekend Recap 1/16/2011

Weekend has come and gone and its back to the grind tomorrow.  Oh, I hate having to go back to the dungeon tomorrow but I gotta do what I gotta do.  I really do hate this gig =/

Changing the subject just a bit… Here’s a recap of our weekend…

Weather was as a good as it will get for January…  High 70s to Low 80s with no cloud in the sky, you really can’t ask for anything more.

Saturday we went to a party in LA for one of Junalyn’s co-workers.  We got lost for a little bit but the iPhone GPS helped us get to where we needed to go.  As far as the actual party was concerned, it was OK.  Jojo got to ride the tire swing, play musical chairs and had a good time.  Junior was laughing hysterically throughout the party and was just happy to get out of the house.  After the party we just headed back home and watched TV then knocked out.

Sunday we just sat around during the morning and just stayed home.  In the afternoon, we went to Salvation Army to donate some stuff (TV, Mini Fridge, Comp Table and Toys)  just to clear up some space.  Then we went to our storage and took the TV and stand that Junalyn’s been wanting to put in the bedroom.  My back’s a little sore but I’m happy we actually did something productive today.

So now it’s about 9:20 PM and I got work at 6:00 AM.. Oh how I love Sunday nights when I know I gotta put up with a whole week in that “place”  :(

Happy New Year

Happy New Year. I know I’m not really good at this blogging stuff but I’m still around.
Have a new job, don’t really like it but it is what it is.

Family is doing great, Jojo is still the best daughter ever and Junior is almost 10 months.. he’s doing awesome as well. The wifey is the greatest as always and I can’t be any happier. I love the fam bam.

As far as this blog is concerned, I really need to start updated it more regularly. I want to be able to look back years from now and see what I was doing at a particular time in my life and I need to write regularly.
I need some help here, that’s a thing in my life I seem to always need help with, sticktuativeness. yep I just said it.. whatever “it” is.

Lakers vs Celtics 2010 Finals Preview

My Los Angeles Lakes are going back to the NBA Finals to defend their title after beating the Phoenix Suns in the WCF in six games.

The Green Bastards on the other hand have beaten Orlando in the ECF as well to set the stage on what I believe to be an EPIC finals.

Revenge is the word that always seems to reverberate when I hear Laker fans talk about this upcoming rematch and I couldn’t agree more.  The way we lost in 2008 left a sour taste in all of LA fans as well as the Laker organization.  I could see that the sour taste come back when they were interviewing LA after winning the Western Conference last night.  I feel that the team HAS BEEN ready for this rematch since 2008 and now that the moment is here, it’s time to DANCE.

I can’t wait for Thursday June 3rd, as the series starts off at the Staples Center.  We need to hold court and make sure to win the first two games in convincing fashion.

Introducing Joseph Aiden Pascua Estrada Jr

Our new addition was born March 22, 2010 @ 9:46 AM weighing in at 5 Lbs 11 Oz and 20 Inches Long.  He scored a 9 on his apgar test and is absolutely perfect.

We were in the Labor room exactly 16 minutes and our little bundle of joy was in our arms.  Junalyn and I wanted to get an epidural but she went from 3 CM to 10 CM so fast that we did not have enough time.  So she had to do it the natural way… Yikes but she’s a trooper and she handled it like a champion.  I couldn’t be any more prouder!

We thought he’d be more than 6 Lbs but with Junalyn’s diet during the pregnancy, it actually makes sense.  I’m off work until April 21st and June is off until the middle of June.  The nights are kind of rough but we know that it will get better.  And of course everything is worth it he is just precious!
